Not too bad, considering I have no idea where this story is going.

No, working 40 hrs a week plus making money freelance isn't enough. I have to write a novel as well this month.

02:51 pm - Right Brain or Left Brain?

Does the dancer turn clockwise or anti-clockwise for you?

I think this is fascinating. She turns clockwise for me, I can get her to switch, though. The human brain is truly amazing - unfortunately it is wasted on  most  people ...

08:39 pm - It's that time of the year again

The NaNoWriMo site will open for sign-up tomorrow. Not that I need to sign up, this will be my sixth time taking part in the madness this year. The last three of them were documented on my LJ, too:

I don't doubt that I'll have written 50,000 words in two months today. Despite the fact that I have no idea what to write yet.

03:11 pm - The Weather

Surprisingly enough, I didn't see much of the notoriously bad weather in the last seven weeks. Not that I'm complaining.

One sure sign that I've been here for some time now is that I can talk about the weather for hours...

08:03 pm - Still Alive

I have been in Guildford for over seven weeks already. The town is a bit too small for my taste, but luckily London is only half an hour away by train. The internship is pretty cool. My tasks are very varied and go far beyond making coffee and copying documents. Being part of a start up that is about to either make it big or be forgotten in a couple of months' time is quite exciting.

One thing I wasn't prepared for is how expensive things are over here. I have lived in Britain before and knew it was not a cheap place to live, but I didn't remember it as being quite so bad. The proximity to London probably doesn't help as far as prices are concerned. Still, I enjoy food shopping at Marks&Sparks.

The job is good, Guildford is charming and, more importantly, in spitting distance to London, my housemates and I get along well - I should be happy. But I want to be in Chicago.

09:54 am - One week left

A word of advise: Organising a cross-border move in seven weeks? Don't do it unless you don't have any other choice. Look up stressed out in the encyclopedia, I bet they have a picture of me there.

I have no idea how I will get everything packed by Saturday - that's when I am cleaning out my flat. After I have handed over the keys to the new tenant, I will hopefully be able to relax. I think I am looking forward to being in Britain again. I just wish I had had a week or two more to prepare for it.

01:22 pm - Resume and cover letter help

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to write a good resume and cover letter? I can write them in German in a heartbeat, but doing it in English is a lot harder than I thought. Should I turn to a professional for help?

02:03 am - Involuntary voluntary

Hunting down jobs as a freelance translator if you don't have any impressive reference to put on your work history is so exhausting.

Today I updated my profiles on a number of sites, bid for jobs and looked for more volunteer work to keep my translation skills at a certain level. It would be nice to land a paid gig for a change, though.
